Go to barclaywinn.com and see what happens.
You’ll notice an unexpected website pops up: the campaign website of one of Barclay Winn’s competitors for City Council: Andria McClellan.
McClellan and Warren Stewart are challenging Winn for his Superward 6 council seat.
It seems that a McClellan supporter purchased barclaywinn.com and redirected it to her website. McClellan said she neither bought the domain nor knows when the purchase was made.
“I think somebody that I know bought it for me,” she said. “It’s sort of surprising that his domain was available. He’s been in office for 16 years, we were surprised when we found out his domain was available.”
Winn said he found out about the domain debacle about a month ago.
“I think this is the type of thing that people lose faith in politicians about. I think it’s underhanded. It’s not something I would ever consider,” Winn said. “I think people that go looking for [my website] and find out would be disappointed in my opponent. I’m baffled that someone would try to run a campaign that way. It’s certainly deceitful.”
Winn said his new website is now www.barclaywinnfornorfolk.com.
Does McClellan have plans to redirect the domain that bears the name of Stewart, her other competitor for the council seat?
“I don’t even know if it’s available,” McClellan said.
