After a long wait, unlocked Moto G4 Plus owners in the US can finally look forward to receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update. Motorola has started pushing out the final Android 7.0 Nougat update for the XT1644 G4 Plus units in the country. The OTA rollout comes a few weeks after Republic Wireless started a Nougat soak test for the handset.
The Android Nougat OTA update for Moto G4 Plus weighs in at 741MB in size, which is to be expected given the fact that it is a major update. However, some of you will still need to be a little patient, as it does take a few days for a major update rollout to be completed. The initial rollout is always slow and limited to a small number of units, which means you might need to wait a day or two more to receive the update.
While an automatic update notification is likely to appear on your screen when the update becomes available for your Moto G4 Plus, you can also check for the update manually if you’re feeling impatient. To do that, you will need to head over to Settings > About Phone > System Updates. If the update is available, you can begin downloading it by following the instructions on the screen. However, do make sure your Moto G4 Plus is connected to a Wi-Fi network before you begin to download the update. Unless you are on an unlimited data plan, we don’t recommend downloading the OTA update over the cellular data network. You should also ensure that your Moto G4 Plus battery is sufficiently charged. We recommend installing the OTA update only when your device has at least 50% battery charge left.
After installing the Android 7.0 Nougat on your Moto G4 Plus, you will notice a number of key changes. Some of the highlights include improved Doze mode for better battery stamina, split-screen multitasking, new emojis, bundled notifications, customizable quick settings, data saver, quick switch between apps, improved settings navigation, new Moto action, and fingerprint sensor for screen lock.
